On May 12th, four of our 8th grade students, Zarah, Eben, Cole, and Isabelle competed in the annual statewide Windstorm challenge at the University of Maine in Orono, where teams were tasked with building the best prototype of a platform for an offshore wind turbine. This was the culminating event of a two month engineering design and build challenge in STEM class.
Hundreds of people attended this event and sixty Middle School teams competed. Our team of 8th Graders, known as the “Falcon Engineers” received an overall rank of 7th place out of all 60 teams. This is an incredible feat for our first time attending this challenge!
In addition, regarding one of the two main judging categories of Creativity, Innovation, and Craftsmanship, our Falcon Engineers placed an amazing 3rd place out of all 60 teams.
Gardiner Regional Middle School should be thrilled to receive such a prestigious ranking in this championship. We are all so proud of the hard work, determination, and efforts of all four of these students and appreciate all parents, staff, and administrators who helped make this possible.
Congratulations to these Falcon Engineers, along with GRMS STEM teacher Russ Anderson, in this awesome accomplishment!
